Motorists are being encouraged by the DVSA (Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency) to carry out a series of simple checks to cut down on the chances of their vehicle failing an MOT test.

The latest MOT testing data for Great Britain shows that around 40% of cars fail their MOT at the first attempt.

The common MOT fails concern are light bulbs, tyre conditon, tyre pressures and mirrors, wipers and washers.

Figures show that 30% of all failure faults relate to lighting and signalling 10% to tyre condition and pressure and 8.5% concern the "driver’s view of the road" caused by problems with mirrors, wipers and washers.
